AUDREY FESIK
RE-ELECT · POMPANO BEACH COMMISSIONER, DISTRICT 1

RESIDENTS FIRST.
ALWAYS.

For the past two years, I've served as your District 1 Commissioner with a simple commitment: ask the tough questions, protect taxpayer dollars, and put residents ahead of politics and special interests. I'm running for re-election because the work isn't finished.

Proud Floridian. Pompano Beach resident.

District 1 City Commissioner committed to putting residents first since 2024.

WHY I'M RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION

For the last two years, I've had the privilege of serving the residents of Pompano Beach as your District 1 Commissioner.

Together, we've challenged the status quo, brought greater transparency to City Hall, demanded accountability for public spending, and made sure residents have a seat at the table before major decisions are made.

The next two years will be among the most important in our city's history. Major decisions on development, infrastructure, public spending, parks, and public safety will shape the future of Pompano Beach for years to come.

Those decisions require leaders who are willing to ask difficult questions, dig into the details, and tell residents the truth, even when it's uncomfortable.

That's exactly what I've done, and it's exactly what I'll continue to do.

"The public elects commissioners, not staff, not lawyers, and not outside contractors."

WHAT I BELIEVE

Residents Deserve a Voice: Major decisions should not happen behind closed doors. Residents deserve clear information, honest communication, and meaningful opportunities to participate before the vote, not after.

Every Tax Dollar Matters: Government should spend responsibly, prioritize core services, and respect the people who pay the bills. That means line-by-line scrutiny of the budget and enforcing the charter rules that govern how the city contracts and spends.

Growth Must Be Responsible: Development should enhance our community, not overwhelm it. Growth should respect our neighborhoods, our infrastructure, traffic realities, and the quality of life that made people choose Pompano Beach in the first place.

Parks and Green Space Matter: Future generations deserve access to parks, open space, beaches, and the natural resources that make Pompano Beach special. Public land should serve the public first.

Public Safety Comes First: Safe neighborhoods are the foundation of a strong community. Supporting effective policing, emergency services, and neighborhood safety initiatives remains a top priority.

THE RECORD SO FAR

"It's not about politics. It's about doing what's right."

- Commissioner Audrey Fesik

Since taking office in November 2024, I've done exactly what I said I'd do. Ask the tough questions, follow the money, and put residents ahead of politics. Here's what that has looked like in practice.

💰 Fiscal Responsibility

Held the line on long-term debt. Helped block $137M in "certificates of participation" bonds for the new downtown City Hall and garage ($9.6M annual debt service). I won't support long-term debt obligations without documented, credible financials in front of us.

Celebrating the Beach. Refocusing on the NW CRA. After nearly 30 years, the East CRA has delivered. If we honor the original CRA sunset promise for 2031, those tax dollars come back to the general fund for paving, infrastructure, and city services citywide, while the CRA refocuses where the work isn't finished: the NW CRA.

Pushed for line-by-line scrutiny of a city budget approaching half a billion dollars - because residents deserve to see where every dollar goes, not a bottom-line summary.

Enforced the Charter and challenged consultant overreach. In 2024, before I was elected, the Commission raised the threshold for its own approval from $75,000 to $200,000, meaning big-dollar contracts now clear administratively without a public vote. I've read the contracts line by line, questioned scopes and renewals, moved to terminate contracts with certain consultants, and called out the pattern of work written just under that new $200,000 line. Under Charter §251, multi-year contracts still require approval by ordinance, and I've held the line there.

🔎 Transparent Government

Insisted on the public's right to hear the details - asking hard questions on the dais even when it makes the meeting run longer, because residents deserve answers before the vote, not after.

Fought for public records access. Even as an elected commissioner, I've had to push back on the City Manager and City Attorney to get records that had already been produced before, and to keep fees from being used as a barrier to information. When residents raise concerns, my job is to trust but verify. That work should not be blocked or billed.

Delivered a formal letter to the City Manager and City Attorney about the use of City and CRA communications channels to promote political agendas and shape narratives around controversial projects. Public resources should inform residents, not lobby them.

Recap meetings on video in plain English so residents don't have to sit through three-hour Commission and CRA meetings to know what actually happened.

🏘 Improving Our Neighborhoods

Paving in District 1 is already underway, with more streets scheduled through fall and winter. Voted to approve the paving projects and helped redirect $2M to get them a green light. Residents asked for smoother, safer streets, and the work is happening.

Championed responsible growth in District 1 - pushing back on redevelopment or rezoning proposals that ignore traffic and safety realities, infrastructure limits, and the character of our neighborhoods.

Fought to protect McNab Park, one of the last substantial neighborhood parks in District 1, dedicated to our veterans in 1952. The 2019 lease covered a portion; a 2022 First Amendment expanded it to the entire park plus the Chamber parcel. Staff and legal counsel say administrative findings are enough; I say a change this big to a park this small deserves a vote of the people, the way Charter §250 contemplates. Called out the lapsed 2023 capital-improvement deadline and pushed for that voter question. Development can happen around our neighborhood parks, not take them over. In November 2024, voters rejected the Charter amendments that would have loosened lease and contract rules.

🗣 Advocating For You

Created real forums for District 1 voices. Hosting open District 1 Dialogues meetings, Coffee & Conversations, the A Seat at the Table event, and staying accessible through regular one-on-one interactions with residents.

Stood up for public spaces, raising formal concerns about the commercialization of McNab Park and the use of City and CRA communications to shape narratives around controversial projects.

Brought District 1 voices into the room on redevelopment, special exceptions, and rezoning items before votes were taken, not after.

Made myself reachable. Direct email, direct phone, direct answers. That's the job.

That's two years of work. The next two years matter more.

Because it's not about politics. It's about doing what's right, and there's still work to do.
